Tenzing Business Simulations UK
YOUR Simulation
Initial Meeting

This is an open forum of senior management and development personnel to:

  • Identify the industry profit drivers and key factors that the participants must get "right"
  • Determine the key products, services and attributes to be included in the simulation.
  • Outline the design of the decision form to encapsulate these factors.

From this meeting the initial shape and scope will start to take place and the specification phase can be started.
  • Specification

The decision form is designed reflecting the objectives set out above. Then the management information reports to support the decision making process are drafted.

These reports, which should follow your company's and industry's own reporting style and nomenclature, will outline the financial and commercial performance of each individual company and the overall marketplace and the competing companies. Finally in this phase the participants booklet is drafted setting out the objectives of the simulation and explanations of the input and management information etc. These three documents are essentially the "specification" for the program. As in many cases, participating teams may be based in remote locations or abroad, the participants booklet must be fully comprehensive.
    Programming

During the programming stage we shall need access through someone in the finance function for some "real" data, this would be top line numbers and would not be onerous to produce, they need not even be the latest available. This data is used to set the sizing levels and relationships in the model. Examples are average sales per salesman, working capital turnover etc. Having totally unreal numbers in the model would destroy its credibility with the participants.

    Client Testing

It is highly desirable that a few people, it need not be more than five, actually sit down and take part in two or three decision periods. This allows for any fine tuning that may be required but also proves that the participants booklet stands up.
